Job description

We are seeking an outstanding candidate for a researcher position as part of the European Research Council Advanced project EPHEMERAL, in the team of Prof. Nozière at the Department of Chemistry of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. Project EPHEMERAL focuses on the development of real-time mass spectrometric (MS) techniques for the detection of organic radicals in gas mixtures such as ambient air, and their deployment in the real atmosphere and in laboratory.

This position will involve the following duties:

- to participate in and supervise the MS instrument development, both conducted by the KTH team and by the international team involved in the project,

- to participate in and supervise the characterization of the MS instruments (calibrations …),

- to ensure the operation of MS instruments (maintenance, repairs …) and supervise their deployment in field campaigns,

- to perform experiments with the MS instruments in laboratory.

Qualifications

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Physics, or appropriate field, with emphasis on the study of gas-phase systems
  • a background in mass spectrometry, Time-of-Flight mass spectrometry, chemical ionization, and related fields (ion physics...)
  • a solid experience in operating and troubleshooting standalone (i.e. not connected to a chromatograph) Time-of-Flight mass spectrometers.
  • excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • strong problem-solving skills
  • proven research abilities (in experimental science)
  • self-motivated, detail- and goal-orient
  • able to work both independently and cooperatively with a team

Preferred qualifications

The following skills are highly desirable

  • some experience in instrument development
  • some knowledge of atmospheric science (preferably chemistry) and/or gas-phase kinetics
  • knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality 

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.
