Postdoctoral Researcher in Enzyme Engineering Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) Graz, Austria

The Institute Molecular Biotechnology at the Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria, has an open research position in the area of data-driven protein engineering. The Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering team investigates the engineering of enzymes and whole-cell biocatalysts for synthetic applications. We use state-of-the art techniques to create enzyme and cell variants with tailormade properties and integrate them into synthetic routes leading to the synthesis of bio-based chemicals and materials. A focal point is the improvement of biocatalysts by directed enzyme evolution. The institute coordinates several European and national research projects and offers thus a dynamic and international environment for research.

The position is suited for a postdoctoral researcher and is funded by an FWF-project within the “1000 Ideas Programme”. Salary is paid as a regular research assistant (“Projektassistent”) according to B1. The start date is October 1, 2021. The position is limited to two years.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD degree in microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry or a related discipline and has experience in synthetic biology, microbiology and/or enzyme engineering. Experience in the engineering of Cupriavidus necator is an advantage.

The successful candidate is expected to supervise international PhD students and biotechnology bachelor and master students. Strong motivation to engage in the project and the ability to work independently, flexibility and team orientation as well as very good spoken and written English skills are required; basic knowledge of German is an advantage.

To apply, please send your application with a letter of motivation, CV, list of publications, names of two reference persons (preferably only in one PDF document) and two representative publications under the reference IMBT21_03 by August 15, 2021 to office.imbt@tugraz.at.
