Biometris is the central group for mathematics and statistics at Wageningen University and Research Centre. The group consists of about 75 people, 50 permanent staff and 25 PhDs and postdocs. Education and consultation are pivotal to the societal role of Biometris. Education is at the very heart of the university and Biometris provides BSc courses on statistics, mathematics and research methodology at Wageningen UR, as well as numerous other courses for MSc and PhD students, post-docs and industry.  Biometris also provides statistical, mathematical and methodological consultancy and training to researchers inside and outside Wageningen UR.

Within Biometris we focus our research on the development of research methodology and on mathematical and statistical techniques that can be applied to the Life Sciences. Consequently, our research is done in collaboration with other research groups both in and outside Wageningen. In this way, we contribute to the scientific and societal impact of Wageningen UR.

Our research focusses on the themes of Statistical Genetics and Genomics, Applied Mathematics for the Life Sciences, Food and Health Risk Assessment, Methodology for Interdisciplinary Research, and Big Data in Life Sciences. Within Biometris we have a vacancy for an lecturer in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. We search an enthusiastic, skillful, and stimulating lecturer and coach in working groups and computer practicals. Your primary task will be lecturing basic and  advanced mathematics and statistics to students from all disciplines of Wageningen University. You contribute to teaching and examining existing courses at bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level. In addition, you are expected to contribute to course evaluations and modifications, possibly leading to improvement and/or renewal of courses, in collaboration with colleagues within Biometris. The context of your work is highly international.

The ideal candidate

  • has completed a Master in the area of mathematics and/or statistics, preferable with a PhD with possible publications in the area of applied mathematics, data analysis and/or statistics
  • is an enthusiastic lecturer, who likes to teach statistics and mathematics to (international) students in a broad range of disciplines
  • is a team-player who appreciates an international working and learning environment
  • has good communication skills, both with students and colleagues.
  • is fluent in English and Dutch.

This is a part time position (0.8 FTE), lecturer Hayscale  4 or 3. The gross salary ranges from €2.790,-  to € 5.127,- (Scale 10 to 11 VSNU) based on full time, i.e. 38 hours/week, depending on qualities and experience. We offer a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-the-year bonus of 8.3% of your annual salary.
