The research project Forestmap is situated in the Viikki science park equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and comprehensive core facilities for marketing science.

in marketing focusing on the current and future business uses of forest maps. The Forestvalue project ForestMap – The next generation of forest maps -adapting a Nordic success story across the globe is EU funded project where also the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Finland funds University of Helsinki.

We are looking for a highly-motivated candidate with a master’s degree preferably in marketing, forest science, economics and business administration or other suitable area. We expect the candidate to be able to plan and conduct research independently and accurately after initial training and to have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Forestmap data utilized in the project is mostly presented in Finnish language. The candidate should work well in a team as she/he will be integrated into an international research team of experts in marketing science. The background and interests of the successful candidate will determine their specific line of research.

PhD degree consists of the student’s research project and studies specific to the research field, as well as transferable skills training. The appointee is expected to work full time on the PhD thesis and to complete their thesis and the associated studies in four years. The appointee will become a member of the Doctoral Programme in Food Chain and Health, which will provide training, guidance and a community of like-minded students.

The appointee should either already have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki by the start of the appointment, or apply for the right and obtain it within the probationary period of six months of their appointment. The starting date is 31.1.2022 but can be negotiated. The starting salary will be ca. 2200 - 2300 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. The position is funded initially for one year with a possibility for extension up to three years total. PhD applicants will be expected to apply for further funding through the University of Helsinki’s Doctoral Programmes. There will be a trial period of six months in the beginning.
