Research Assistant in Quantitative Social Science

 


The Public Policy Group and the Immigration Policy Lab (IPL) at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences, ETH Zurich, are looking for a Research Assistant (20-30%).

Job description

You will be working on several projects to support researchers at the the Immigration Policy Lab. The projects range from an existing panel survey of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, a proposed study of media coverage of refugees, and a potential RCT to test the contact hypothesis in Germany.

Your main tasks will include the following:

  • Conduct a review of the top economics and political science journals for studies that use original panel surveys, build a dataset with information about each panel
  • Conduct literature reviews of studies related to prejudice reduction, media coverage of refugees, and potentially other topics related to migrants
  • Collect survey instruments and suggest survey questions
  • Conduct data cleaning and preliminary analysis in R

Your profile

The ideal candidate will, at the time of appointment, be enrolled in a master degree program at a Swiss University in social sciences or related study fields.

We are looking for an independent and reliable team player with a structured working style. The ability to work effectively as part of a team and proficiency in English, combined with good writing skills are essential prerequisites. You need to have experience conducting literature reviews and summarizing relevant literature. The project also requires attention to detail and the ability to quickly read over and summarize articles. In addition, intermediate experience with data cleaning and basic analysis using the statistical software R is essential. Research experience in the area of migration is a plus.
