Theodor Kocher Institute (TKI), University of Bern http://www.tki.unibe.ch

Context:
The group of Giuseppe Locatelli within the Theodor Kocher Institute (University of Bern) offers a Research assistant position starting in February 2021.
For further information about the research in Dr. Locatelli's group, please visit: https://www.tki.unibe.ch/research/research_groups/giuseppe_locatelli/index_eng.html.

Tasks
Research project:
In Multiple Sclerosis (MS), myeloid cells invade the inflamed CNS, with brain barriers functioning as checkpoints to control their invasion. These barriers are also inhabited by several tissue resident macrophages.
In this project, we will investigate the distinct role of invading and resident macrophages during neuroinflammation at brain barriers and in the parenchyma. We will use innovative transgenic approaches to track different myeloid cells and visualize their infiltration across brain barriers by 2-photon in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an MS model. In parallel, we will investigate the oxidative pathology affecting myelin-producing oligodendrocytes in the inflamed CNS.
Requirements
Education and profile:
To be eligible, we expect a good master (or equivalent) degree in a relevant discipline of the life sciences (preferentially neurosciences and immunology) and good laboratory experience in working with mice, histology, microscopy, flow cytometry and data analysis. Great skills in English language are required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as a willingness to work flexibly.
We offer
Duration: at least 1 year, possibility for an extension.

Location: TKI, University of Bern
Applications: Please apply by sending your CV, certificate of latest graduation as well as 1 letter of recommendation.
