The Mathematics-Physics Section, within the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University, consists of the Department of Astronomy, the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Meteorology and the Department of Physics. All four departments have strong research profiles in several areas within their discipline. In total, the Section of Mathematics and Physics consist of about 160 permant faculty staff, 180 PhD students and 80 post docs.

The section now announces a strategic position as "Postdoctoral Fellow in Physical and Mathematical Sciences". The call is broad and the fellow may perform research in any of the four discplines. However, it is expected that the fellow will develop cross-disciplinary activity together with researchers within at least two of the section departments.

Project description
The call is very broad covering all areas of physical and mathematical sciences which are covered by the four departments in Astronomy, Mathematics, Meteorology and Physics. Candidates are invited to submit their own research plan. In developing their research plan candidates are expected to make contact with suitable researchers withing the section and discuss their plans prior to the deadline of the application, establishing links with at least two departments. The proposed research project consequently should ideally be of interest to at least two departments within the section.

Main responsibilities
The position involves mainly research. The candidate may also have up to 20 % duties in teaching and/or administrative duties.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills and based on how well the candidate fits to the suggested research groups.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date September 1, 2022, or as per agreement.
