The School of Archaeology and Anthropology (SoAA) within the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) has a world leading Archaeology department with an excellent reputation across teaching and research. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding early career academic to contribute to the school’s teaching and research agendas. With the aim of increasing the diversity of staff in this area, this position will be restricted to people who identify as women.

Position Overview 

The School of Archaeology and Anthropology (College of Arts and Social Sciences) at the Australian National University seeks a full-time Level B Lecturer in Archaeology Science. The ideal candidate has a track record of excellence in archaeological research and has evidence of research at the leading edge of at least one sub-discipline within archaeological science. The successful candidate will contribute to the excellence of the School’s archaeological teaching programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, especially within archaeological science, and should complement current disciplinary strengths. It is also expected the successful candidate will be a lively part of campus life by contributing to service roles and engagement across colleges in research and teaching.

This is an identified position in accordance with the University’s Identified Positions Procedure. The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special measure and is aimed at increasing employment opportunities for women in the workplace where women have been, and continue to be, underrepresented.

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of seven Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice. Our academic staff are internationally recognised for their research, and 57 are members of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia, or both. We also host 13 Australian Research Council Future Fellows and three ARC Laureates. A hub of vibrant activity, we host more than 270 lectures, concerts and exhibitions each year, most of which are open to the public.
