At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.
The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for an Associate Researcher employment at the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.
The Neurochemistry laboratory at the department conducts neurochemical research targeted to understand the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease and other brain disorders. An important goal is to identify protein changes linked to the pathophysiology, known as biomarkers, which can be valuable to explore disease mechanisms, for diagnosis and to monitor treatment effects.
Duties
Analyses of protein biomarkers in CSF and plasma samples with immunoassay techniques.
The employment is linked to a project to study new biochemical protein markers for Alzheimer’s disease, and other brain disorders, e.g. Parkinson´s disease and acute hypoxic or traumatic brain damage. Job assignments include to validate and evaluate new analytical methods, and to perform clinical neurochemical studies using these tests. The analytical methods include immunoassays, primarily the cobas Elecsys technique. Assignments also include administrative work linked to the projects, such as preparing data reports, reagent files and also managing project agreements.
Qualifications
The applicant should have an education in an area relevant for the employment, such as laboratory technician. A PhD in a relevant subject is a merit.
Research merits in the area of Alzheimer’s disease and acute brain injuries, and on protein biomarkers for these conditions. Knowledge and experience in quantitative protein immunoassays, such as the cobas Elecsys technique, are of especial merit, so is a good ability to handle data sets and make data reports. Emphasis will also be placed on personal fitness.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 11 months, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
