The Department of Business Law at Lund University seeks at least one Postdoctoral Fellow in Business Law.

Job assignments

The holder will conduct independent research in the area of Business Law represented at the department.

He/she is expected to cooperate with other researchers at the department, be willing to interact with students and to actively participate in the common activities of the department. The position involves a limited amount of teaching (the equivalent of one course a year and some supervision of Bachelor and Master Theses).

Eligibility

Applicants must hold a PhD/LLD in Business Law or related discipline. The degree must not have been awarded more than three years ago (unless the applicant has been on parental leave or sick leave). Applications will also be accepted from persons who have not yet completed their PhD/LLD, but this condition must be satisfied at the time of employment.

Qualifications

Scholarly proficiency is the main requirement for employment.

Applicants must show a high degree of research expertise as manifested in the quality of their doctoral dissertation and other publications.

Good oral and written proficiency in English.

Basis of assessment

In addition to the above, the following set of criteria will be applied in the assessment of candidates:

  • Experience from working in a non-Swedish university;
  • PhD/LLD degree awarded at a non-Swedish university;
  • International experience (such as international projects, publications or conference presentations);
  • Relevance and viability of the research plan (also in relation to the research and educational profiles of the Department of Business Law);
  • Other results and distinctions that attest to the applicant's ability to do research;
  • Ability to engage and inform society at large about research.

Research at the department is currently related to Tax law, Labour and employment law, Contract law, Corporate law, Intellectual Property law and EU law. The research focus at the Department relates to climate considerations and other issues of sustainability as well as digitalization, artificial intelligence and automation. We especially welcome applicants with a research orientation in line with these societal challenges.

Evaluation of the applicants will take their experience, knowledge and other personal qualities into consideration. The applicants' ability to use their skills and experience to strengthen and supplement existing research activities within the School of Economics and Management will also be considered.

Post doctoral researcher in Modeling of Aerosols, Cold Clouds and Climate

Subject description
The chief reason for scientific uncertainty about how much climate change will occur for a given scenario of future emissions of greenhouse gases is that clouds are especially challenging to represent in numerical models.  Clouds affect the Earth’s radiation budget and changes in their properties can reinforce or offset any ongoing climate change.

Most of the volume of the troposphere is subzero.  There any clouds contain ice. There has been controversy about initiation of ice in clouds, especially regarding the identity of aerosol species (‘ice nuclei’) initiating the first ice and whether their action is appreciably time-dependent.

This project aims to represent lab observations of ice initiation in a cloud model and to investigate the effects from activity of ice nucleus aerosols on the cloud-scale.

The project is part of a larger collaboration between experimentalists and atmospheric modellers in Sweden at Lund, in USA and in Norway at Oslo.

Work duties
The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. The work will involve numerical modelling. The researcher will develop microphysics schemes in a global model so as to treat various mechanisms of ice initiation. Satellite and other observations of clouds will be collected  so as to verify the accuracy of the global model developments.   Impacts on the climate from changes in ice-nucleating aerosols from anthropogenic emissions will be evaluated.

This will involve coding with FORTRAN 90 in a UNIX Environment.  The work will be performed in a team of atmospheric modellers at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science.

Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Requirements:

  • The applicant must have a PhD degree in meteorology (e.g. climate science) latest at the date for employment decision.
  • Experience of FORTRAN in UNIX environment

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English
  • The PhD must have involved numerical modelling

It is desirable to have documented knowledge from their university education in:

  • Mathematics, especially differential equations
  • Numerical methods and/or computer programming
  • Cloud physics

It will be advantageous if the applicant is experienced with modeling of either clouds or climate.

In the application, applicants should provide evidence of how they meet these requirements.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.

Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research
  • Documented ability to write computer programs

Knowledge and experience in the areas noted above, such as cloud physics and modelling of either clouds or climate

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. Process Engineer at Lund Nano Lab

The division of Soid State Physics at the department of Physics runs the world-class semiconductor nanofabrication facility Lund Nano Lab (LNL). LNL is part of Myfab – the national infrastructure for micro and nano fabrication. It is a key infrastructure for Nanolund, the Center for Nanoscience at Lund University, which is world-leading in the materials science and applications of nanostructured semiconductors. LNL turns over approx. 45 MSEK annually and consists of circa 1200 m2 laboratory area whereof 600 m2 is designated semiconductor clean room. The lab hosts approximately 80 tools, including those for deposition, growth, etch and patterning of semiconductor materials. There are also a number of specialised instruments for characterisationand metrology. The lab has over 150 active users from academia and industry. The LNL team includes 14 highly qualified scientists, engineers and technicians, including a number of Ph.D’s, who are focused on keeping the facility running, equipment available and providing a service to all users so that they can conduct their research.

Lund Nano Lab is seeking an experienced Process Engineer with an emphasis on plasma processes (ICP-RIE, PECVD, etc). In this role, the successful candidate will conduct process, equipment and material improvement projects in support of the user base and in conjunction with the original equipment manufacturers (OEM). This involves exceptional team work and collaboration with other engineers in the LNL team as well as OEM’s to meet challenging, long-term research goals. You will interface with students, scientists and engineers to provide training and support on select processes and equipment, reporting to the Operations Manager of LNL. We are planning to build a new cleanroom at Science Village in Lund to double the current capacity, so this is an exceptionally exciting time to join the team.

Work duties

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring process tools are in good condition and ready to use
  • Train and issue licenses to new users
  • Prepare and document process specifications and capabilities
  • Establish or develop documentation for calibration routines, baseline processes, tool monitoring and tool recovery procedures (in collaboration with equipment manufacturers, colleagues and the user base)
  • Provide consultation and user support for new process development. Ensure compatability of new processes with existing processes
  • Troubleshooting of processes and equipment. Work with vendors for technical assistance and support when issues arise with the tools
  • Improve and expand process performance for all users
  • Assist or lead in procuring new equipment for Lund Nano Lab and coordinate efforts with equipment engineers and facility manager during installation / start-up and acceptance testing

Qualifications

The following documented experiences and qualifications are required:

  • A University degree in a relevant area such as chemical engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science or a similar education
  • Minimum of 5 years of process development in a relevant field
  • Knowledge of basic semiconductor processing principles
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot existing processes
  • A thorough understanding of the interdependence of process and hardware
  • Proficiency in English including the ability to write technical documentation
  • Service minded approach, with excellent communication skills and team-oriented approach / collaboration

Other merits

Further, these additional qualifications and experience would be beneficial:

  • Experience with semiconductor processing equipment, in particular with plasma etching and plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD)
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor process development
  • Ability to perform basic process troubleshooting
  • Ability to operate complicated processing equipment
  • Experience with basic data analysis, e.g., I-MR, in support of process monitoring and stability
  • Excellent understanding of the safety hazards associated with operating various cleanroom equipment

Postdoctoral fellow in neuroimaging (fMRI) of Alzheimer’s disease

About the research group

The research group for Clinical Memory Research conducts research in dementia. Our research is focused on defining and understanding biological processes in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. We work both with cohorts of patients and cognitively unimpaired volunteers, who undergo extensive testing with neuroimaging, biomarker measurements and neuropsychological testing, and with animal- and cell biology experiments. The postdoctoral fellow will join a growing multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists and clinical researchers, who are dedicated to increase the knowledge about neurodegenerative diseases. The long-term goal of our research is to contribute to the development of new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases where effective treatments are still lacking. More information can be found here. The research group is led by Professor Oskar Hansson. This position will be placed at BMC in Lund.

We are now looking for a postdoctoral researcher for neuroimaging (fMRI) analyses in Alzheimer’s disease. The research is led by Oskar Hansson and Rik Ossenkoppele in the research group of Clinical Memory Research at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, as part of a larger European Research Council (ERC) starting grant project. The employment is a full-time, fixed-term position, limited to two years. Preliminary starting date is April 1st 2022 or according to agreement.

Work duties

The postdoctoral researcher will focus on fMRI data analysis, aimed at improving our understanding of the functional mechanisms i) providing resilience against Alzheimer’s disease pathology, and ii) promoting protein spreading in Alzheimer’s disease.  The postdoctoral researcher will work with data acquired as part of the Swedish BioFINDER 2 study (www.biofinder.se). In this study, 1,500 persons across the clinical spectrum of Alzheimer’s disease (i.e., from cognitively normal to dementia) will undergo longitudinal advanced neuroimaging including 3T and 7T MRI with both structural and functional sequences as well as amyloid and tau PET. Other assignments within the research group may also occur.

Qualifications

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

For appointment to a post-doctoral position, the ability to develop and conduct high quality research and also teaching skills will be evaluated as part of the assessment criteria. The assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.

The following are also required for the position:

  • Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, bioinformatics or a related discipline
  • Ability to independently perform large-scale neuroimaging analyses of both cross-sectional and longitudinal fMRI data
  • Expertise in statistical modeling and scripting/programming

Work duties

We are looking for a sociologist or a sociologically oriented criminologist in the beginning of their career. The position is comprised of 50 percent research and 50 percent teaching. Work duties consist of teaching in sociology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with focus on quantitative methods. Teaching can take place within both the sociology and the criminology program. Work duties also include conducting high-quality research in sociology, according to high international standards. The incumbent is expected to actively contribute to strengthening our research environments. This includes publishing and applying for external research grants. In addition, the incumbent shall actively participate in the development of the education offered.

Qualifications

A person who has obtained a PhD or an equivalent degree from abroad in sociology or criminology, or has acquired the equivalent research expertise in other ways, will be considered eligible for the position of associate senior lecturer. Only applicants who have obtained a PhD or acquired the equivalent qualifications no more than five years prior to the application deadline will be considered. Applicants who have obtained their PhD more than five years prior to the application deadline can be considered if there are special circumstances, such as sick leave, parental leave etc.

Requirements

The applicant is required to have a PhD in sociology or criminology (or equivalent research expertise), as well as having teaching and research experience in sociology or the equivalent. Priority is given to applicants with a high level of research and teaching expertise in quantitative methods. Experience of collaboration with external actors is also a merit. Applicants must also be able to present documentation of their research expertise. Ability to acquire external funding is a merit.

The applicant must be able to work independently with both teaching and research in a responsible and structured way. Good interpersonal skills are required.

Teaching will be conducted in Swedish and English. A documented ability to teach in English is a requirement.

Assessment criteria

In the assessment, special attention will be paid to the applicant’s development potential as well as documented research skills, ability to develop research within the subject area and to obtain external research funding. Research skills include international publication, independent research, and participation in international cooperation, with reference to the degree of progression following their PhD.

Great emphasis is also placed on pedagogical abilities, especially teaching in quantitative methods at various levels. In addition, attention will be paid to how the applicant’s research fits the department’s research environment.

Top ranked candidates will be invited to a trial lecture and an interview which will also form the basis of the assessment.

Promotion

An associate senior lecturer may, on application, be promoted to permanent employment as a senior lecturer. The application must be submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences no later than 3 years and 6 months after the date of appointment. A review will be conducted midway through the appointment. The applicant’s eligibility and suitability for such employment will be assessed through a review of the progress they have made during their appointment with regard to research and teaching, focusing on the following criteria:
• well documented research competence that is of significance to the subject and duties of the post. This includes a good documented national and international standing as a researcher. Particular importance will be attached to the ability to publish internationally. Documented ability to write applications for external research funding.
• well documented teaching competence. Particular importance will be attached to documented skills in conducting teaching and supervision at different levels and to development of quality and breadth of teaching competence over time. Teacher training to the extent required for appointment as senior lecturer. The pedagogical competence must be documented in a teaching portfolio.
• progress in academic leadership through an enhanced ability to develop, lead and implement education and research and/or demonstrated leadership/commitment to duties for the department as a whole.
• good ability to interact with society and inform others about research and development work.
• When assessed, equal weight will be placed on pedagogical and research skills.
• where applicable, sufficient proficiency in Swedish to be able to teach in Swedish. There are opportunities for Swedish language training at Lund University.
