More about the position

The successful candidate will examine how concepts developed in the environmental sciences, like ecosystem-based management, may be applied to the governance of “Global Systemic Resources” (e.g. rainforests, peatlands, the polar regions) which lie within and between national jurisdictions. Candidates are expected to deliver a project proposal showing how it will contribute to Dynamic Territory’s research plan.

Among the questions to be explored by the postdoctoral fellow are: What are the advantages and disadvantages of applying the ecosystem-based approach (and other approaches used in the environmental sciences) to regulate these areas? How should the movement and settlement of people in these sites be regulated? What are the implications of transitioning from the current regulation of territory in these sites (fixed and dependent on the sovereignty of individual states) to a more dynamic regulation based on the input of sciences like ecology, biology and oceanography? For more detailed information on Work Package 2, directly connected to this position, check the project’s website.

The research will apply methodology from the fields of philosophy, political theory and/or environmental sciences widely construed. Preference will be given to applicants with an interdisciplinary background in the above-mentioned fields. The successful candidate is expected to produce at least 4 peer-reviewed articles during the three-year period.

The position is available for a period of 3 years. There is a 10 % component of the position which is devoted to teaching and administrative duties.

The successful candidate is expected to be based in Oslo during the project period, starting the 1st of January 2022. They will actively collaborate with the project’s team, and participate in the Practical Philosophy Group and other departmental activities.

The main purpose of postdoctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
