POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER, Supramolecular Chemistry

The fixed-term position starts January 3^rd, 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and ends on June 30^th, 2023.

Tasks and responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will work in the group of Fabien Cougnon at the NanoScience Center. The group is specialized in the development of new strategies to access entangled molecules, such as catenanes and knots. Entangled molecules have captured the attention of chemists because they can be used as molecular machines. To date, most entangled molecules made in the lab are built from artificial building blocks. Entangling natural biomolecules, such as peptides, has proved to be particularly challenging. The goal of this project will be to design multiply entangled de novo peptides. This is an ambitious and intellectually stimulating project, which may lead to the development of new applications for entangled molecules in the context of biology and materials science.

In addition, the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to actively participate in group meetings, high-level publishing, and undergraduate and graduate students supervision.

Qualifications we are looking for

Candidates are expected to hold a PhD degree or equivalent in chemistry or a related field. Previous experience in de novo peptide design and / or supramolecular chemistry is preferable.

Precise working methods, team player attitude, and the ability to act independently are prerequisites for a Postdoctoral Researcher. The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of postdoctoral researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, are required.

The annual salary range will be approximately 38,000 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A trial period of six months will be used when the position is first filled.
