Associate researcher for the research project: Refugee Migration and Cities: Social Institutions, Political Governance and Integration in Jordan, Turkey, and Sweden (SIPGI)

The School of Global Studies conducts socially relevant education and research in a unique interdisciplinary knowledge environment. The department hosts about 130 employees and PhD students who conduct research on major and pressing global challenges related to issues of climate and sustainability, war and peace, migration, human rights, power relations, culture/multiculturalism, and societal change. The department forms a unique environment for interdisciplinary research in peace and development research, social science environmental studies, human ecology, human rights, and social anthropology. The department's research is conducted by researchers from many different subject areas, and we understand global developments from different perspectives and approaches. Our knowledge is based on deep analysis, empirical and locally rooted knowledge, dialogue and conversation with individuals and groups and understanding of local conditions and global processes.

The School of Global Studies (SGS) at the University of Gothenburg is looking for an associate researcher on part-time basis for one year. The position is part of a research project led by Andrea Spehar entitled: "Refugee Migration and Cities: Social Institutions, Political Governance and Integration in Jordan, Turkey and Sweden” (SIPGI). https://www.gu.se/en/sipgi-researchenvironment

Job assignments

You will collaborate with Andrea Spehar, Associate Professor in Political Science (Director of CGM and project leader of (SIPGI)) and Isabell Schierenbeck, Professor of Political Science (project participant within SIPGI). You will write at least two scientific articles based on previously collected qualitative interview material, participate in the organization of a scientific workshop and/or conference, contribute to the writing of research application.

There will be excellent opportunities for intellectual development and mentorship as well as developing an independent research agenda within the overall framework of the project.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • relevant master’s degree or Doctoral degree in Social Sciences
  • documented very good skills in speaking and writing in English
  • experience in education or research in the field of migration and integration
  • experience working with interview material
  • good organizational skills
  • experience in writing scientific texts

In addition to the basic qualifications, suitability for the project will be assessed. The limited time scale of the project makes it crucial that the candidate can quickly get started on the work. Familiarity with migration research is therefore particularly advantageous. The candidate also needs to have a good ability to work independently and take own initiative.

Employment

The employment is a temporary employment for 12 months. Extent 50% with placement currently at the School of Global Studies.The starting date is 1 September 2023.
