Area: Machine Learning Applications in Network Security

Duration: One Year, with possible extension for a second year

Start date: Negotiable

Salary: 50,000 to 60,000 $CAD per year (depending on experience) plus Alberta Blue Cross Plan C Health Insurance benefits

The Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the network security area .

We are looking for a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join the Networked Systems and Applications (NetSys) group at the University of Calgary. This position is part of a recently funded research project called NeuroPAD. The main objective of the NeuroPAD project is to design and develop novel mechanisms based on machine learning techniques for anomaly detection in industrial control systems. The successful applicant is expected to play a leading role in the design, implementation and evaluation of machine learning based models for anomaly detection. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research on limitations and trade-offs in machine learning based anomaly detection
  • Design, train and test deep learning models for stealthy attack detection in industrial control systems
  • Work in a collaborative environment to lead project activities, advise junior graduate students and organize research meetings
  • Participate in writing and preparing technical papers for publication and contribute to project reports and presentations

The Postdoctoral Scholar will work closely with Prof. Majid Ghaderi (http://www.ucalgary.ca/~mghaderi) in the NetSys group. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal for a second year subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields
  • PhD completed within the last 3 years
  • Strong background in computer networks and network protocols
  • Demonstrated experience with designing and training deep neural networks
  • Working knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch
  • Established record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Strong programming skills including Python programming
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
