Assistant/Associate Professor (Clinical), Department of Pathology (C-211021)

 


The McGill University Department of Pathology and the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Department of Laboratory Medicine are seeking a dynamic, fellowship-trained pathologist for a full-time position at St. Mary’s Hospital (SMH) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). This faculty appointment will be part of the Contract Academic Staff and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate's qualifications and experience.

The SMH Pathology lab processes over 20,000 surgical specimens, and 50,000 cytology specimens annually. The Pathology division offers residency rotations in subspecialty areas in Anatomic Pathology and Molecular Pathology.

 Job Duties

The successful candidate is expected to participate in the diagnostic work of the surgical pathology team at the SMH site. They will share intraoperative consultations and on-call duties with the other members of the pathology team, and actively participate in quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement programs. The successful candidate is expected to maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established performance indicators and turnaround times.

The successful candidate will also be actively involved in all aspects of McGill's academic mission (teaching, research, and involvement in other scholarly duties such as academic and/or administrative committees) and provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to diverse pathology residents and medical students.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Requirements:

  • MD degree with Royal College certification in Anatomic Pathology or equivalent;
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Quebec;
  • Completion of at least one year of fellowship training or equivalent postgraduate training;
  • A commitment to teaching, and an interest in clinical research and publication;
  • Excellent references and a strong track record of collegiality with co-workers;
  • English language skills.

Assets:

  • PhD in oncology-related fields;
  • French language skills.
